Here are the photos of a dinner suit that I made for a lovely Berkshire gentleman.
There is a charming back-story to this, as he came to me to tailor make him a new dinner suit to wear to the party he was hosting to celebrate his wife’s 50th birthday. It sounds more like an event than a party, what a black tie spectacular it must have been.
He brought me a vintage dinner suit that he picked up from an op-shop some years ago and now doesn’t fit so well. He decided that it was time to hand it down to his son, as it is still in good condition, just needing a few minor repairs to the lining.
However, he wanted to keep many of the vintage elements of the original suit in the new one. The barathea is from Harrisons of Edinburgh, cloth number 31268 from the H.Lesser formalwear bunch and a respectable weight of 15oz. Although many would regard this as a heavier weight in modern standards, I assure you that the original garment was much heavier, coming in at around 18-20oz.
